Rethinking Business Models

Business leaders want to know how generative AI can fundamentally change their business

About three weeks ago, I realized that I didn’t fully understand how other people think about using generative AI in their businesses. I’m working on a product that helps people build AI assisted workflows and, so far, my attempts to pitch it have failed miserably. So I decided to go back to the drawing board and start doing customer interviews to try and understand the AI conversation that’s happening in their heads .

Managed to speak to five founders or top executives about using chatGPT in their businesses so far.

Initially, my focus was on integrating AI into workforce processes like SOPs. However, the most significant insight so far is that business leaders are less concerned with teaching employees how to use AI than they are with understanding how this technology can fundamentally change their business.

This shift led me to rethink my approach from up-skilling staff to reimagining business models in light of AI’s potential impact. For example, instead of exploring different workflows for lawyers, I should be asking how an entire law firm can be transformed by this technology.

Moving forward, I’m going to start looking at how different companies have integrated AI into their business models. How has Notion used AI in their product? How has Intercom using AI? What about examples of service businesses? How are consulting forms using the tech? This is slightly different gathering examples of prompts people in those businesses use to be more productive. A table of ways different businesses are leveraging AI in their business models is much more interesting to business leaders because they want a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of generative AI to their business.
