David Bressler was a data analyst dealing with constant requests from junior analysts. He had an idea to automate these requests.
Bressler didn’t know how to code. He taught himself using no-code tools and YouTube. His initial product was an Excel Formula Bot.
He shared it with coworkers and the response was amazing. David then posted it on Reddit’s Excel community and it became one of the top posts. He started posting it on larger subreddits and the Excel Formula Bot went viral.
Months later, he re-launched as Formula Bot with paid plans and a bunch of improvements from customer feedback. Revenue hit $26,000+ per month.
Bressler quit his full-time job and focused on his AI startup, now valued at $1M.
All with no coding experience.
He turned a recurring hassle (that he had the specialized expertise to solve) into a lucrative side project by leveraging AI and no-code tools.
This story came from the Feb 24 newsletter issue of You Probably Need A Robot. I tried sharing a direct link to the issue but couldn’t figure out how to link to an email publicly.
I’m sure David’s story is more complicated when you get into the details but its still inspiring. He does seem to be a real person, on Twitter at least. Formula Bot is real and I even managed to track down the Reddit post that went viral two years ago.
